English text Though my carriage be but careless, though my looks be of the sternest, yet my passions be compareless, when I love, I love in earnest. No, my wits are not so wild but a gentle soul may yoke me, nor my heart so hard compiled but it melts, if love provoke me.

Dutch translation Al is mijn vege lijf versleten, en zijn mijn trekken wat verbeten, toch is mijn hartstocht onbegrensd, wanneer ik liefheb in alle ernst. Ach nee, mijn grapjes zijn niet erg gevat toch brengt een zachte ziel mij in vervoering, noch is mijn inborst zo gehard dat 'k niet ontdooi van liefde en ontroering.

French translation Bien que mon aspect soit négligé Bien que mes regards soient des plus sévères Cependant mes passions sont sans égales, Quand j'aime, j'aime vraiment. Non, je n'ai pas l'esprit si sauvage Qu'une douce âme ne me puisse enchaîner Et mon coeur n'est pas tant bâti en dur Qu'il ne fonde, quand l'amour me titille.
