For the case of Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme and Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern, Nicolai is both the lyricist and the composer of the original hymns (in the case of Wachet auf, he adapted a melody originally due to Hans Sachs). The choral literature contains many settings of these texts and assciated melodies. Since there are settings of both texts/melodies at CPDL, I wonder just what is the best way to list these works. Not all appear via LyricistSettingsList, since not all are in the original German language. And not all appear via Philipp Nicolai compositions, since he is not usually cited as the composer (except by Eva Toller). Under a "Settings of melodic works" section, I've added the Toller settings and duplicated the two settings by Praetorius and Werlin, although I've not added some version of Template:Composer information to those works (should we set composertype=Melody? or Tune? or what?). | |
