Talk:Hark the glad sound! The Saviour comes (Thomas Merritt)

Visiting this page after a long break, I am a little surprised at some additions that have been made.

I have no problem with a mid file being made, but I haven't heard it yet!

I don't think Merritt would've expected "a cappella" performance though (except perhaps by tin miners at work!) - far too 'twee' for this style of music. It would better either not to specify instruments or to specify keyboard/organ.

Merritt only sets four verses of the hymn, I think. As it's a bit tricky repeating the words in the right places if they are not under the notes. So the other verses are potentially misleading.

The question is: "does 'instruments' reflects the original accompaniment or the accompaniment that is in the score?". When there are more than one edition of the same work, it's the original accompaniment of which we think first. But in this case, as in many others, it reflects only the present edition. And many editors aren't sure of what the composer wanted and if the composer wanted only one accompaniment throughout his life. Anyway, this can be discussed further in the forums. Just my two (more) cents. ;-) Claude 06:58, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
