Multiple editions, only one link to PDFs?

I note that in several instances (especially the Victoria works) more than one edition of a work is available on the works page, but only single links given here for PDF, MIDI, and source files here. Elsewhere (at least on composer pages), we suppress such links and use the {{Editions|#}} template to indicate the number of editions available. Hi Chuck, as I have already suggested to John, my feeling is that we shouldn't have any edition info on this page. This is just a "Music publication" page, and edition info is already available on the score and respective composer pages. I strongly suggest that this page be reformatted in the same tabular layout as "TUMS Busking Book" or, perhaps, as Il Trionfo di Dori, but with separate links to works and composers. -- Carlos^Talk 03:04, 27 June 2008 (PDT)

As the author of this page I will defend it saying that it organizes one author's edition together in one place. When multiple editions, with different formatting, and different accompanment this is an advantage. It should have a note to that effect. In this case I would argrue that "Less is not more". The other editions of a given work can easily be seen by clicking on the individual work's links. The CPDL numbers and pages were just there for cross-checking. I have done this, and this info ( # pgs and CPDL #) can now be removed. I left Carlos a reply on my talk page that the pg # and CPDL # would eventually be eliminated.Johnhenryfowler 07:11, 27 June 2008 (PDT)

If that really is to be the case, John, then I suggest (1) that Sabine Cassola's edition information be included, and (2) that the composer's names be included in the listing of works. What this discussion boils down to is: is this a single work, like Handel's Messiah or Monteverdi's Vespers, which has multiple movements; or is it a publication, a combination of many different works brought together by a publisher? Though I don't know anything about this collection of works, it seems to be the latter and as such I believe it should be formatted in the same way as other publication pages, eg. Carols for Choirs 3. It is my view that edition info should be reserved for the score pages in this case.

I'm afraid I disagree with your opening assertion, John, that we should organise editions together - this is exactly the opposite of what we do here on CPDL. We offer visitors the option of different editions of the same work, not a list of all editions by an editor - that wouldn't be very useful. --Bobnotts talk 20:50, 27 June 2008 (PDT)
