Se di dolor io potessi morire,
Donna crudele, m’havresti già morto,
Solo per far contento il tuo desire,
Ma non t’accorgi ingrata
Che’l morir mi saria vita beata.

German translation

Wenn ich vor Kummer sterben könnte,
grausame Frau, hättest du mich schon getötet,
nur um dein Verlangen zu befriedigen,
aber empfinde dich nicht als ungnädig,
das Sterben wäre mir seliges Leben.
