Robert Franz
Life
Born: 28 June 1815
Died: 24 October 1892
Biography Born Robert Franz Julius Knauth, both Robert and his father adopted Franz as surname in 1847. Apart from study in Dessau, Franz spent his entire career in Halle, where he was organist at the Ulrichskirche and directed the Singakademe. Growing deafness from 1841 led to his resigning both posts in 1867, but he continued to receive honors and compose, writing some 280 Lieder with piano as well as choral works.
