Description: A folk hymn (Lowens 1964). First published in Wyeths Repository, Part Second, 1813, for two voices (Tenor-Bass). William Hauser added Treble and Alto parts in The Hesperian Harp, 1848. Words by an unknown author, before 1804, with three stanzas. Very different from the famous Restoration (William Walker) from Southern Harmony, 1835.

English text 1. Ye captives restored, and saints of the Lord, Who follow the Lamb and are led by his word: Let's read it and see if we can agree And pray for the Spirit our leader to be. O hallelujah, O hallelujah, O hallelu, hallelu, hallelujah.

2. We'll read it aright, and pray for a sight Of each bounden duty, and in it delight. And it is your case, through rich and free grace, That you are secured in a Savior's embrace. O hallelujah, O hallelujah, O hallelu, hallelu, hallelujah.

3. And do you enquire with earnest desire "Lord, what dost thou now of thy servant require?" His Spirit and word directions afford, Let's search for our duty, and follow the Lord. O hallelujah, O hallelujah, O hallelu, hallelu, hallelujah.
