The composer introduces the work with these words: "El que se sigue es un fragmento de un villancico de Nuestra Señora, a 4. Van trocadas las cuatro vozes ocho compases, que es lo que permite la cadencia de la composición, que siendo para cantarse, no debe ir tan atada a las reglas, por las razones dichas en otra parte."
