Life

Biography
Sir Philip Ledger CBE is a British classical musician and academic.
He studied at King's College, Cambridge before serving as Organist of Chelmsford Cathedral from 1962 to 1965. He was then Director of Music at the University of East Anglia from 1956 to 1973 before returning to Cambridge as Director of Music of the choir of King's College, Cambridge from 1974 to 1982, succeeding David Willcocks.
He was subsequently head of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama from 1982 until his retirement in 2001.
He is a noted organist and keyboard player. He has also composed, arranged and edited music, particularly for choir.
