O comme heureux i’estimerois mon cœur
Si ce nenny estoit encore à dire.
Helas ! mon dieu, dont me vient ce malheur
qu’aiant si fort alors sceu contredire?
Maintenant l’on veut avec un doux rire
me dire ouy de mon contentement,
mais soit ouy ou nenny, je desire
de n’aymer rien fors que moy seulement.

Die Antwort auf ein zartes Nein.

O wie glücklich schätzte ich mein Herz,
wenn dieses Nein noch unausgesprochen wäre.
Ach, mein Gott, woher kommt dieses Unglück,
dem ich bisher so sehr widerstehen konnte?
Nun will man mit einem süßen Lächeln
ja zu mir sagen, um nich zufrieden zu machen,
aber sei es Ja oder Nein, ich wünsche
nichts mehr zu lieben außer nur mich.

English translation

The answer to a sweet No.

O how happy I would deem my heart,
if this No were still to be said.
Alas, my God, where does this misfortune come from
which I could so well resist until now?
Now one wishes by a sweet smile
say Yes to me, to my contentment,
but be it Yes or No, I desire
to love nothing beside myself now.
