Biography
Melchiorre Scotto was the son of Girolamo Scotto and a member of the Milanese Scotto family, whose Venetian book printing and selling company was one of the biggest in Europe. In 1572, upon Girolamo's death, Melchiorre took over the family business, continuing to print much music under the name "the heir of Girolamo Scotto." The company was broken up upon his own death in 1613 because he did not have a legitimate heir under Venetian law.
