General Information

Title: Kyrie [Orbis factor]
Composer: Christopher Tye

Number of voices: 4vv   Voicing: ATTB
Genre: SacredMass fragment

Language: Latin
Instruments: A cappella

Manuscript c. 1575 British Library, Add. MS 17802-5 (Gyffard Partbooks), no. 11
Description: This Kyrie setting alternates between chant (sung by a full choir) and polyphony (sung by soloists); polyphonic sections freely paraphrase the Orbis factor melody. The lack of a proper trope (common English practice) suggests this setting was used at the daily Lady-Mass or on simple feasts.
