Publications

Publications by Torres include his treatise "Arte de canto llano, con entonaciones de coro y altar, y otras cosas". This contains some 37 examples. They include the score of the "Salve Regina". Most of the other works (largely solo and two part motets) are included in parts. These include a number of settings of "Benedictus qui venit" - a motet and a canon by Torres himself, 2 motets by Philippe Rogier and one by Alonso Lobo. The copy of this work in the British Library is inscribed "Presented by Sir John Hawkins, May 30 1778”. Hawkins does not, however, refer to Torres in his "History of Music".

There is also a considerable number of his works preserved from the archive of Guatemala Cathedral. Microfilmed copies of this material have been digitised and uploaded onto the Música Colonial Management Site where they will be found in "Reel 7". Much of this material, however, is barely legible and difficult or impossible to transcribe without access to the originals.
