French.png French text

Il s'en va tard, il pleut, il vente,
Et n'est pas trop sûr le chemin,
Mais Amour si fort me tourmente
Que ne puis attendre à demain.
Le ciel fût-il tant inhumain,
Étant contraire à ma requête,
Qu'il plût cailloux, foudre ou tempête,
Puisqu'il faut aller voir madame.
Ni pluie ni vent ne m'arrête,
Trop plus violente est ma flamme.

English.png English translation

The hour is late, with wind and rain,
And blackest night upon the road,
But Love so strong gives me such pain
That I can’t wait though ill may bode.
The heavens have their cruelty showed,
Defying what my heart did seek,
Though hail fly and thunder shriek
To meet my lady is my aim.
Nor rain nor wind can make me weak,
So much more blinding is my flame.
