English text
1 Come, with high and holy gladness,
Chant our Lord's triumphant lay;
Not one touch of twilight sadness
dims yon glorious morning ray,
Breaking o'er the purple east:
Brighter far our Easter feast.
2 He is risen, he is risen;
He hath opened heaven's gate:
We are free from sin's dark prison,
Risen to a holier state.
Soon a brighter Easter beam
On our longing eyes shall stream.
3 Come, ye sad and fearful-hearted,
With glad smile and radiant brow;
Lent's long shadows have departed,
All His woes are over now,
And the Passion that He bore:
Sin and pain can vex no more.
4 Triune God, let all adore Thee,
Saints on earth and saints in heaven;
Ev'ry creature bow before Thee,
Who hast all their being giv'n;
Who by grace dost us restore
Praise to Thee for evermore.
