'Tis night, dead night. Now o'er the plain darkness extends her ebon ray,
And wide along the gloomy scene deep silence holds her solemn sway.
Hence, darkness, hence see beauty rise, supplying sunshine to the eyes.
Let music all her tribute give, and hail the light by which we live.
