55794Mick Swithinbank2019-10-312019-10-31This is a new contrafactum of Striggio's madrigal '{{NoCo|Caro dolce ben mio}}', based on the cpdl edition by Allen Garvin. The new text draws on that of the Second Responsory for Tenebrae on Maundy Thursday, but does not use the full text from that source. There are many precedents for such a reworking: not only Coppini's sacred contrafacta of Monteverdi madrigals but also for example 'Congratulamini videte omnes', a contrafactum dating from 1610 of Striggio's secular 'Non rumor di tamburi', which has been edited by Christopher Shaw for cpdl.222484Tristis est anima mea (Alessandro Striggio)Tristis est anima meaAlessandro Striggio2023-09-30 23:11:34
